Last weekend, I headed over to Spokane, WA for a visit and an opportunity to take pictures of a house in Peaceful Valley. This beautiful home, situated on the Spokane River, is considered to be the ‘greenest’ house in WA, although, you would never be able to tell by just looking at it. The energy efficiency and green technology built into this house does not stick out in its sleek design. Below are some awesome facts and images of this home:
-Photovoltaic panels cover the south side of the home’s roof. The panels generate so much power, that the owner sells back the surplus energy to the utilities company.
-The wood used to make the kitchen cabinetry was salvaged from the remodel of a local hotel, and the oak flooring came from the siding of old barns. Even the sheet rock is made from recycled materials, and the insulation is made from bits of denim left over from the process of making jeans.
-The tiles for the kitchen and bathroom backsplashes were made from recycled wine and beer bottles by Spokane artisan Jeff Hazen.
-The toilets have two flushing options, depending on how much water you need. There’s also a waterless urinal in one bathroom.
-The living room’s fireplace is made from bricks salvaged from the local Community Building, including some blackened when the building suffered a fire years ago.
-Two 500-gallon tanks collect rainwater underground, and that water eventually will irrigate a raised-bed vegetable garden.
I hope this becomes the standard. Do you know of any local homes with ‘green’ technology?

Hello and welcome to the much anticipated launch of TCPeterson Photography and the first of many blog posts!
While you can tell that I have a passion for photography and am an avid outdoorsman, I felt it would be appropriate to tell you a little bit more about myself and how I ended up pursuing a life-long career dream in the field of photography.
For those of you that do not know me, I am a Montana native, but grew up mostly in Spokane, WA. After high school, I ventured up north to Bellingham, WA where my photography passion began. I use to live right in Bellingham bay and had a house that overlooked the water and Lummi Island. I spent a great deal of time with my first 2MP Fuji point and shoot on the roof of my house capturing sunsets over the bay. My obsession began here and has further developed over the years (as well as many camera upgrades).
In my early twenties, I was a bit of a vagabond moving from city to city while finishing my college education. I have spent substantial time here in Seattle as well as Portland, OR and Honolulu, HI. During this time I have captured great moments in some pretty unique places.
While skylines are a favorite shot of mine, nothing beats my discovery of shooting from the top of unfinished high rises while I was living in Portland. It is an exhilarating moment when you begin to climb those towers late at night and capture images of unseen angles and views.
In 2006 I moved to Hawaii and spent my time working in Waikiki. Every chance I had I would jump on my scooter and hike the Ko’olau range and other points around the island. I spent weekends exploring all the islands and shooting everything and anything I found beautiful. After Hawaii, I eventually made my way home to Seattle where I have been ever since.
You may be wondering where my interest in architecture and real estate comes into play and surprisingly it dates back to my childhood where my dad was an architectural and interior designer. I credit him for my artistic vision as well as my attention to detail. It must be in the genes. I have an eye for what is unique and important and I try to capture that vision in every photo I take. Whether it is a color, an object, an emotion or a story, my photos are all taken with a purpose.
If you have a moment I encourage you to flip through my images on my site. Send me an email if you have any comments or are interested in a quote for a specific project. I look forward to this new beginning and to building my career in photography with all of you!
